Why WordPress Makes a Great CMS

Posted October 22nd 2012 Blog - 0 Comments

One of the best content management systems used today is WordPress. Originally, it was designed as a blogging platform but it’s grown into much more. While it’s still used by bloggers, many professional web developers and designers choose this CMS over the other options available. It’s even the choice of many well known brands like People Magazine, CNN and the New York Times.

One thing that makes WordPress so popular is the fact that it uses a code that is so well-written that it helps sites to rank high with Google and other search engines. Two more things that make it so popular are simplicity and versatility.

The Simplicity of WordPress

In the beginning, WordPress was used by bloggers everywhere because it’s one of the easiest platforms available to use and understand. Even if it’s your first time creating a blog and you’re not sure what you need to do, you can use it. You don’t have to be tech savvy to edit or update your content, making it easy for you to keep fresh, new information available at all times. If you can edit a Word document, you can keep your content updated with no problem.

Core codes are already installed on the dashboard for users that just need a simple, easy to use platform. This ease of use helped WordPress to grow quickly in popularity and it’s one of the reasons it has evolved so much. Even though it has evolved way beyond a simple blogging platform, it’s still simple to use.

The Versatility of WordPress

As WordPress evolved, new plugins were created so users could add new features to their site, which allows you to customize it to fit your needs better. These plugins have made WordPress more versatile, so it’s great for all types of users from the simple blogger to websites created for big companies.

Today, there are thousands of plugins to choose from that can help you create the perfect website. If you come up with something that will improve the functionality of your site but it’s not in the core codes already, look for a plugin that suites your needs. There is probably something available now that you can use. There are also thousands of themes available for you to choose from for the design of your site to make it even more unique and personal.

If for some reason you’re still having problems finding what you want and you need to customize your site even more than what you can do with the plugins, you can do so by modifying the code because WordPress is an open source. In other words, the source code needed to run this application is available to anyone. Of course, this usually isn’t necessary but it gives you an idea of just how versatile this CMS really is.

WordPress is affordable, simple to use, versatile and accepted by every part of the worldwide community. It’s even updated regularly to keep it running efficiently and to keep it secure. What more could you want from a content management system? With all these benefits, it’s easy to see why WordPress makes a great CMS for any user.
